When to switch to winter tyres
A summer tyre hardens when the temperature drops below 7 °C, and the stopping distance grows even on a dry road.
What the law says
From 1 November to 1 April, when there are winter conditions on the road, a car must have winter tyres with at least 4 mm of tread.
How to check
- measure the tread in the middle and at the edges
- look at the date on the sidewall (four digits: week and year)
- a tyre older than six years is harder, however much tread it has
At the change we check the pressures and the balance too, and the summer set can stay with us.
